After Thoughts On Sundown Ultramarathon

As compared to my other ultramarathons that I had completed, namely the 50-miler in South Africa, the 50km run in Vermont, and both the 12-hour MR25 Ultramarathon, the Sundown was much easier. The terrain was as flat as a pancake, except for the few overhead bridges that we had to cross and the area in Bedok Reservoir after we crossed the PIE and the 2km just before the finishing line. So I was quite amused by some runners who claimed that the terrain was not as flat. The only problem I was facing was the hard cement pavement and tarmac road that we had to run on. And of course the weather and humidity. I was also glad that I was not hit by the heavy rain like some of the runners do. In fact, it was only a drizzle and I was hopping that the rain could be heavier so that I could cool myself. :(

Nevertheless, I enjoyed another job well done - as in finished within the cut-off time of 14 hours 30 minutes. Will I do it again? No, I'm afraid not. Not that the organiser did not do a good job because they did a fantastic job out there, knowing the running culture we had in Singapore. It was just that its really hard for me to take part in events in Singapore or in countries with Singapore's kind of weather and humidity. Also, it would be time to volunteer as part of the SGRunners support crew in future. :)

For the record, all ultramarathon finisher received an event blue-colored singlet, a red-colored finisher tee and a towel. And our Certificate of Achievement was nicely laminated and posted to us about 2 months after the event.
